A Welcoming Smile
Shared by Matt Dietsch
Years ago, Matt and Ely had spent the whole day mountain biking, just crushing it - setting KOMs - before rolling up to Piper and Chris’s place in Santa Monica looking like two dust-covered wookies. They were starving, filthy, and barely standing upright when the door opened. Piper, ever the gracious host, just smiled and welcomed them in with a hug and without hesitation. Within minutes, the kitchen was under siege. Plates of food vanished, leftovers were demolished, and the beer supply was destroyed. By the time the damage was done, Piper and Chris were left wondering when was the last time Matt & Ely ate - and what the rest of the guests were going to eat that night. But instead of frowning, Piper laughed. She ushered everyone out to the backyard, where they sat under the stars, telling stories, drinking the last of the beer, and feeling completely at home. That night left a mark—one of generosity, warmth, and friendship. And so today, on Piper’s 50th birthday, we raise a glass to the woman who somehow still smiles, still welcomes, and still makes everyone feel like family… even when the fridge gets raided. Happy Birthday, Piper—you make it impossible to forget how lucky we are to know you.
